Berlin Pride attack suspect shot dead by police

The suspect in the Berlin Pride attack, Abdul Ballout, was shot and killed during a police operation at an allotment garden complex in Spandau, according to local media.
Ballout is believed to have driven a van into a crowd near Berlin’s Pride festival, killing one person and injuring 29 others, before reportedly using a machete.
Authorities are treating the incident as an Islamic extremist terror attack, with the German-born suspect having previously sought to join the militant Islamic State group.
Ballout had a prior conviction in May for preparing a serious act of violence and publishing Islamic State propaganda, for which he received a suspended sentence.
The attack, which occurred a few hundred metres from the Pride closing party, has prompted concerns about security at other major events in Germany.
