Schools across Benue State on Wednesday joined the nationwide commemoration of the 2026 Children’s Day celebration with various activities aimed at promoting children’s welfare, inclusion and development.

At the JS Tarka Stadium, Gboko, staff and students of various schools participated in the event which featured march-past displays, entertainment and other activities organised to celebrate children and encourage social interaction among students.

Beyond Gboko, Children’s Day celebrations were also held in other parts of Benue State.

In Jato-Aka, nursery, primary and secondary schools assembled at the NKST Pilot Primary School playground for activities including march-pasts, cultural dances, relay races, football and handball competitions.

Celebrations were similarly reported at the Vandeikya Township Stadium in Vandeikya and at the Chief Emmanuel Akume Atongo Township Stadium in Katsina-Ala, where schools and children gathered for the annual event.

Meanwhile, Governor Hyacinth Alia, in a Children’s Day message signed by Tersoo Kula, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to providing what he described as a safe, supportive and inclusive environment for children.

The governor stated that the administration remains focused on education, child welfare and creating opportunities for children across the state.
