Ten-man Belgium were held to a goalless draw by Iran in their World Cup Group G match, which took place in Los Angeles on Sunday.
Iran’s resilient defence, bolstered by goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand’s seven saves, successfully repelled numerous Belgian attacks throughout the match.
Belgium were reduced to ten men in the second half after Nathan Ngoy received a red card for hauling down Mehdi Taremi, who was through on goal.
Despite dominating possession, Belgium failed to break the deadlock against Iran’s strong defensive performance.
Both teams now have two points in Group G; Iran is scheduled to play Egypt next in Seattle, while Belgium will face New Zealand in Vancouver.
