  • OpenAI has asked a U.S. judge to dismiss a lawsuit filed by Apple, which accuses the ChatGPT maker and two former Apple employees of stealing trade secrets.
  • Apple’s July lawsuit alleged that OpenAI improperly obtained and exploited its confidential information through former employees, recruitment, and supplier relationships to advance its consumer hardware goals.
  • OpenAI contends it has no need for Apple’s trade secrets, asserting it is developing “something entirely new” and that Apple’s complaint fails to identify any specific stolen secrets.
  • The company also suggested Apple’s lawsuit is an attempt to address its struggles in retaining talent and its slower progress in integrating AI into its products.
  • Despite the ongoing legal battle, Apple and OpenAI continue their business partnership, with Apple users able to access ChatGPT through Siri and subscribe via iOS settings.
