The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Olabisi Onabanjo University branch, has commended the management of the institution for its improved performance in the July 2026 Webometrics Global Ranking.

The union, in a statement signed by its Chairperson, Yinusa Ganiyu, on Friday, particularly praised the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ayodeji Agboola, and his management team for what it described as an impressive achievement.

ASUU-OOU said the improved ranking reflected the university’s growing visibility, academic productivity, research output, digital presence and global recognition.

The union said, “This achievement is a significant indication of the growing visibility, academic productivity, research output, digital presence and global recognition of our great University.

“It is also a testament to the commitment and efforts of the university administration, staff and students in repositioning OOU.

“ASUU-OOU acknowledges and appreciates the leadership of Prof. Ayodeji Johnson Agboola and his Management Team, as well as the contributions of every member of the University community to the progress recorded over the last four years.

“The achievement has demonstrated one important fact: members of our University community are capable of providing excellent leadership and taking OOU to greater heights. The progress recorded in recent years is a reflection of what purposeful leadership, commitment, cooperation and a shared vision can achieve”

ASUU has therefore called on the entire university community to continue to support the leadership of the university, while saying that all hands must remain on deck to ensure the sustainability, consolidation and further improvement of the gains recorded over the last four years.

The union revealed that, at this critical stage of the university’s development, there must be a collective resolve to avoid distractions and actions that are capable of undermining the progress already achieved or derailing the university back into its difficult past.

“The interest of Olabisi Onabanjo University must remain paramount at all times.ASUU-OOU believes that the responsibility for sustaining the current gains belongs to all of us. Management, academic and non-academic staff, students, unions and all other stakeholders must continue to work together in the overall interest of the university”, ASUU said.

The recent Webometrics ranking put the university at 2,338 out of 32,000 universities in the world, 57th in Africa and eighth in the country.
