Anambra FCE council names Nonye new provost

The Governing Council of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Umunze, Anambra State, has approved the appointment of Dr Ejezie Virginia Nonye as the new provost of the institution.

The council also appointed Mr Eze Joachim as registrar, Mr Oguegbulu Philip as bursar, and Mr Ameh Godfrey Shaibu as librarian.

The appointments followed a screening and interview process conducted by the institution’s 8th governing council, led by its Chairman, Gani Azeez.

Appointment letters were issued to the successful candidates on Thursday by the outgoing Registrar and Secretary to Council, Mrs Bessie Nkah.

The outgoing provost, Prof Theresa Obumneme Okoli, congratulated the newly appointed principal officers and urged members of staff to support the new leadership to advance the growth and development of the institution.

The appointments were greeted with excitement by members of staff, who expressed optimism about the future of the college under the new administration.

Before her appointment, Dr Ejezie served as the congregation representative of the teaching staff in the institution’s governing council.

She joined the college in 1992 as an assistant lecturer and rose to the rank of chief lecturer in 2011.

She had also served in various capacities, including Dean of the School of Sciences, Director of Academic Planning and Statistics, Coordinator of the College Pre-NCE Programme, and Head of the Department of Chemistry Education.

The new provost attended Girls High School, Ihite, and obtained her Nigeria Certificate in Education in Biology/Chemistry from the College of Education, Nsugbe, now Nwafor Orizu College of Education.

She later earned degrees in Chemistry Education and Science Education from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and a PhD in Science Education from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

The new registrar, Mr Eze, previously served as the congregation representative of the non-teaching staff in the governing council and was deputy registrar in charge of admissions before his appointment.

He joined the institution in 1996 as an administrative officer and rose to the rank of deputy registrar.

He holds a degree in Sociology from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, and a Master’s degree in Sociology from Imo State University.

The newly appointed bursar, Mr Oguegbulu, joined the college in 2003 as an accountant and became deputy bursar in 2025.

He holds qualifications in accountancy, management and business education from institutions, including the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, the University of Calabar, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, and the Enugu State University of Science and Technology.

Before his appointment, the new librarian, Mr Ameh, was chief librarian at the Federal College of Education, Eha-Amufu, Enugu State.

He began his career as an assistant librarian at Arewa House, Centre for Historical Research and Documentation, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and later joined the Federal College of Education, Eha-Amufu, in 2006. He rose to the rank of chief librarian in 2022.
