An A&E doctor has been stabbed at a hospital in West London, with one man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Police have launched an investigation into the events leading up to the knife attack at Hillingdon Hospital in the early hours of Tuesday, May 26.

Officers who had been at the hospital that day for a separate matter were alerted to the incident and detained the 27-year-old suspect on suspicion of attempted murder and inflicting grievous bodily harm.

The doctor, aged in his 50s, received treatment for his injuries, which were determined to be neither life-threatening nor life-altering, reports My London. The incident is believed to be related to mental health issues.

A section of Hillingdon Hospital was temporarily closed while emergency services worked at the scene, according to reports.
