Diogo Jota honoured before Portugal’s World Cup clash with Croatia ahead of anniversary of his death

  • Diogo Jota was honoured ahead of Portugal’s World Cup match against Croatia on Thursday evening.
  • Jota tragically passed away in a car crash on 3 July last year at the age of 28, alongside his brother Andre Silva.
  • On the eve of the one-year anniversary of his passing, an image of Jota was shown on the big screen during the Portuguese national anthem prior to kick-off.
  • Portugal named Jota on the World Cup squad list when it was published prior to the tournament getting underway.
  • Portugal manager Roberto Martinez also stated that his side would honour Jota throughout the World Cup, while the players were all given a bracelet before the tournament with Jota’s name on it.
