An independent gaming store in Beaverton, Oregon, Chronos Games & Gifts, has suspended its weekly trading card tournaments.
The suspension was enacted due to a wave of complaints and negative reviews concerning the body odor of some participants and the mistreatment of the store’s restroom facilities.
The store announced the weeklong pause on its public Discord channel, specifically citing recurring issues with Yu-Gi-Oh! players’ cleanliness.
Major publishers, including Yu-Gi-Oh! publisher Konami, have previously implemented formal hygiene regulations for competitive gaming events.
These industry guidelines emphasize that participants must maintain cleanliness and proper grooming to ensure a pleasant atmosphere, with non-compliance potentially leading to penalties or removal from events.
