Trump blames vandals for damage as Reflecting Pool peels, appears “algae bloom green”
The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool turned green with algae just days after a multi-million-dollar renovation project, overseen by President Donald Trump, was completed.
Tennessee Republican Representative Tim Burchett suggested allowing the algae to grow, proposing it could create an ecosystem with fish.
Trump’s administration responded by using hydrogen peroxide to kill the algae and vacuuming it out, with Trump later blaming vandals for the problem.
Government documents, however, indicated that the pool’s blue sealant was already peeling and algae-killing devices were malfunctioning before the algae bloom.
Despite the initial issues, the water in the Reflecting Pool had noticeably returned to a bluer hue by Wednesday.
