Parents warned over ‘Hi Dad’ scams ahead of Father’s Day

Santander UK has issued a warning to parents about “Hi Dad” impersonation scams, particularly ahead of Father’s Day on June 21.
A staggering £160,000 has been reported stolen this year due to these specific scams.
Fraudsters typically pose as a child through messages or AI-generated phone calls, urgently requesting money or a payment.
Santander’s “scamtracker” revealed that men lost £100,000 daily to various authorised push payment scams, including investment and purchase fraud, during the first six months of the year.
Chris Ainsley, Head of Fraud Risk Management at Santander UK, urged people to remain vigilant against such schemes.
