Lumo, the budget, all-electric rail operator, will introduce Elon Musk‘s Starlink Wi-Fi on its East Coast Main Line fleet this autumn.
Starlink, operated by SpaceX, is a high-speed, low-latency satellite internet service utilising a low Earth orbit.
The internet system will be installed on Lumo trains through a partnership with manufacturer Hitachi, connectivity provider Icomera, and rolling stock lease provider Beacon Rail.
Passengers travelling between London King’s Cross, Stevenage, Newcastle, Morpeth, Edinburgh, Falkirk, and Glasgow will enjoy the “significant step forward in onboard connectivity”, said Lumo.
According to Lumo, this initiative aims to provide a “more consistent, high-quality connection” across the East Coast Main Line, addressing the limitations of traditional trackside and mobile-based Wi-Fi systems.
