Detective drama fans have been up all night bingeing one of Netflix’s “masterpiece” offerings.
Enthusiasts of detective dramas are being encouraged to watch a Golden Globe-nominated police drama adapted from a 1990s novel.
The programme, which initially broadcast on USA Network and ranks amongst numerous detective dramas available on Netflix, features Bill Pullman as a police detective investigating crimes perpetrated by unexpected offenders.
The police procedural was originally conceived as an eight-part limited series, but following critical praise and impressive viewing figures, it evolved into an anthology series spanning four seasons, broadcast between 2017 and 2021.
The programme secured a nomination for the Golden Globe Award for Best Miniseries or Television Film, while star Jessica Biel received nominations for both a Golden Globe and an Emmy Award for her principal performance.
The Sinner is the programme in question, with Pullman portraying detective Harry Ambrose across all four seasons, each chronicling a separate investigation.

Petra Hammesfahr’s 1999 novel provided the foundation for the opening season, with the series taking its title from the book.
Cases explored throughout the series encompass a disturbed woman who fatally stabbed a man, a young boy who poisoned a couple, a deadly car collision and a tragedy concerning the daughter of an influential family.
Enthusiasts have flocked to IMDb reviews to express their opinions on the series, with one declaring it a “masterpiece”, stating: “From the first episode into this miniseries I was hooked into a streamathon watching it during any available downtime.
“The twists and turns have you skipping recaps and jumping to the next episode. Beil was breathtaking and emotional, theatrically they nailed it my heart raced at times, others I couldn’t hold back the tears a beautifully dreadful masterpiece of lost memories, murder and revaluation. 10000 stars.”

Another viewer labelled it “stellar”, adding: “Bill Pullman is a national treasure. Nothing more really needs to be said.”
A third enthused: “Just finished season 1; one word – wow! I can’t believe how good the show is. The plot, the acting, the beautiful upstate New York small town setting.
“It’s not just the twists. It’s the ugly realism of religious zealotry, marital issues, and being a victim of circumstances.”
One final fan gushed: “This had me on the edge of my seat, biting my nails in suspense try to figure out what happened. The ending was no disappointment. This could have happened to any ordinary person!!!”
Pullman received nominations for several prestigious accolades, amongst them a Screen Actors Guild Award, a Critics’ Choice Television Award and a Hollywood Critics Association TV Award.
Notably, the series setting was relocated from Germany, as depicted in the original novel, to Upstate New York in the United States.
