As part of the Game of Thrones franchise, many believed the main characters were earning an eye-watering salary per episode, considering the cult following it created.
And while the cast including Emilia Clarke, who played Daenerys Targaryen for eight series, were paid handsomely, the actress has now decided to set the record straight when it comes to cast salary.
The series had a run of eight series and ended in 2019. At its peak it amassed viewing figures of 25million per episode. At the time, it was reported that the main characters were receiving an estimated £222,950 per episode – but Emilia, 39, has now rubbished those claims.

Addressing the rumour mill, she told Variety: “We didn’t earn that much. Can you imagine? I’d have been driving a couple of Porsches!”
Although she did not clarify her earnings, it has been reported that she was able to pay off her parents’ mortgage and her career, like many others on the show, was propelled to great heights.
When asked how fame impacted her life, she told the publication: “I spent a lot of time trying to understand it. And then you realise, it’s just a formula: the less you’re on TV, the less famous you are. It comes and it goes.”
Emilia has since landed roles in many other hit shows and films including Me Before You. But outside of her expanding CV, she admits to feeling disappointed at not winning an Emmy award, despite being nominated.
In 2019, on the back of the final series of the show, she had been nominated for Best Lead Actress in a Drama. However, she was pipped to the post by UK actress Jodie Comer, who won the gong for her role in Killing Eve.
Candidly admitting her disappointment, she said: “I’m embarrassed to admit that not winning an Emmy was a really significant thing.
She skipped the afterparties, and recalled thinking to herself: “Everyone’s over Game of Thrones now – you’re old news.
“Because clearly, I have a 13-year-old’s idea of success.”
