Disney+ has announced that three new episodes of The Simpsons will arrive on the streaming service this summer.

The long-running and beloved animated sitcom completed its 37th season on Fox earlier this year, a run which included the show’s landmark 800th episode.

A 38th season is expected to begin sometime this Fall.

Before that, three episodes will be available exclusively via Disney+. The first is a double-episode set to arrive on June 17 titled “Extreme Makeover: Homer Edition.”

According to the show’s official logline: “Homer and Marge’s fun couples’ date night goes off the rails when Marge learns Homer left the kids unsupervised with only the doorbell camera as a babysitter. Frustrated with her imperfect husband, a tipsy Marge stirs up a trilogy of fantasies of a different Homer. The special guest stars Betty Gilpin, with musical guests Laufey and Tegan and Sara.”

Another episode titled “Simpsley” will arrive on the streaming service June 3. A plot summary reads: “When penniless con-artist Marge Bouvier is sent to Italy to convince wealthy sap Seymour Skinner to come home, she’s tempted by the trappings of his affluent lifestyle. But there’s a big fat fly in the ointment: Skinner’s clingy, dim-witted mooch of a houseguest, Homer Simpsley. Lies, lust and Italian lira are abound in this Disney+ exclusive Simpsons noir.”

Finally a Black Mirror parody titled “Yellow Mirror” will become available August 26. The logline reads: “A defective lamp reveals a heartbreaking truth about what Homer believes is reality, and an AI-powered tablet befriends and controls Maggie. The Simpsons struggle to find the light through two dark tales of the curious and bizarre.”

Earlier this year, Simpsons showrunner Matt Selman played down speculation that a forthcoming film — a sequel to 2007’s The Simpsons Movie — could serve as its swan song.

Should the show one day come to an end, Selman is adamant it won’t be a standard season finale and would merely seem like just another episode.

“We did an episode about a year-and-a-half ago that was like a parody of the series finale,” he said. “We jammed every possible series finale concept into one show, so that was sort of my way of saying we’re never going to do a series finale.”

He told The Wrap the episode “made fun of all the ideas of wrapping everything up or ending,” adding: “If the show ever did end, there’s no finale; it would just be a regular episode that has the family in it. Probably a little Easter egg here and there, but no ‘I’m going to miss this place.’”

Selman said The Simpsons “isn’t supposed to change” each week, stating: “The characters reset every week. It’s like Groundhog Day, but they don’t know it – and they don’t die that much.”
