Former USA international, Taylor Twellman, has claimed that Portugal are at their best if Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t play.

The former New England Revolution forward stated this just weeks before the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ronaldo is preparing to make history at the World Cup to be held across the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The Al-Nassr forward will be playing in his sixth World Cup, with only Argentina captain Lionel Messi in contention to match the fear this summer.

Speaking to ESPN, Twellman said, “For Portugal, and I am going to make a bold statement here, this is the best team Ronaldo has ever had around him at a World Cup.

“I actually think Portugal is at their best if he doesn’t play.”

Portugal is in Group K at the World Cup and will face DR Congo, Uzbekistan and Colombia.

Roberto Martinez’s side will play friendly games against Chile and Nigeria, respectively, before the start of the tournament in June.
