The first six contestants for the upcoming series of Love Island have been unveiled, featuring a diverse mix including a quantity surveyor and DJ, a student from Barbados, and a business owner.

The popular ITV2 dating show is set to make its return to screens on 1 June, with Maya Jama once again at the helm as host.

Among those hoping to find romance is Robyn, 21, from Liverpool, who describes her ideal partner as “tall, fair, muscles, nice teeth, pretty boy.” She elaborated on her preferences, stating, “I’m more into personality though. They’ve got to make me laugh, be charming and have good manners.”

The surveyor views finding love on the programme as her “only goal,” adding, “There may be a little bit of drama but I’m going in there for myself, so I’ve got to do what I’ve got to do. But I would like to think I’m a girl’s girl and that I handle situations quite well. I’ve got a mature brain.”

Hertfordshire-based business owner Lorenzo, 28, shared his type, noting he is “traditionally blonde” and “quite like[s] a posh girl.” He revealed a rather specific physical preference: “One feature I look at is a girl’s arms, I don’t know why. It’s really strange! Imagine like a Jessica Alba or an Angelina Jolie kind of arm and neck, I find that very elegant. Very niche, I know!”

Meanwhile, Mica, 21, a student originally from Barbados but now residing in London, expressed her aversion to a “really egotistical, cringey man.” She clarified, “That’s not my vibe at all. I can’t have someone who’s more into themselves then they are me. They need to be obsessed with me.”

Among the new arrivals is Lola, a 25-year-old detective from Kent, who values intellect in a partner.

She stated: “I like someone who is smart who can teach me things. I like book smart but even if they’re not book smart, I like someone who is like actually teaching me stuff.”

Nurse Angelista, 24, from Staffordshire, is seeking a partner who is both “a listener and a doer.” She elaborated: “You can’t just be listening and not doing! Someone that puts actions behind words and is patient.”

They will be joined by electrician Samuel, 25, from Dudley; primary school teacher Sean, 25, from Galway; videographer Ellie, 24, from West Lothian; and model Samraj, 25, from Birmingham.

Samraj, when asked about his villa strategy, offered a candid insight into his approach to romance.

He explained: “Without sounding arrogant, in the outside world, I don’t really chase that much, I’m used to girls coming to me. I know in the Villa it’s a different dynamic. In the beginning, I’m not going to be pushing myself out there, I’m just gonna watch and see who I like and then go from there.”

The villa will also welcome West End performer Ope, 27, from Lincolnshire, who prefers “Northerners because they’ve got better crack”.

Meanwhile, fashion business owner Jasmine, 27, from Dubai said she lives for the drama, adding that her type on paper is someone “objectively hot, really charismatic and confident”.

The final contestant unveiled for the new series of Love Island is property broker Aidan, 23, from Kent, who plans on just being himself and speaking to as many people as possible.

“I don’t really see it as competition,” he said. “If someone chooses someone else over me, then it just wasn’t meant to be.

“I think everything happens for a reason, so I just stay in my own lane and let things play out.”

The 2025 edition of the popular reality show saw Toni Laites and Cacherel “Cach” Mercer crowned as winners.

The first American on the UK reality TV series and the professional dancer beat Shakira Khan, 22, from Burnley, and footballer Harry Cooksley, 30, who came second.

Electrical engineer Jamie Rhodes, 26, came third with commercial banking executive Yasmin Pettet, 24, while Angel Swift, a 26-year-old aesthetics practitioner who entered the villa as a bombshell, came in fourth place with site engineer Ty Isherwood, 23.

Love Island will commence on Monday, 1 June at 9pm, available on ITV2 and ITVX.
