- Country music legend Dolly Parton died at the age of 80 following a “brief battle with cancer”.
- Parton secretly recorded a track titled My Place in History, which is locked in a time capsule set to be opened on what would have been her 100th birthday on 19 January 2046, according to her book Songteller: My Life in Lyrics.
- The song was deposited at Dollywood’s DreamMore resort, with Parton previously joking on The Kelly Clarkson Show in 2022 that she was frustrated no one would hear the song for another two decades.
- Global tributes have poured in for the singer, with her goddaughter Miley Cyrus calling her an “angel” and Paul McCartney praising her songwriting and philanthropy.
