Victor Boniface came off the bench to score the winning goal as Bayer Leverkusen defeated Newcastle United 2-1 in a pre-season friendly at the St. James’ Park on Saturday night.
Ibrahim Maza gave Leverkusen the lead barely a minute after kick-off.
Newcastle United, however, equalised through Malick Thiaw just before the break.
Boniface replaced Mazza in the 80th minute of the keenly contested encounter.
The Nigeria international then fired home the winning goal two minutes later.
His international teammate, Nathan Tella also featured for Bayer Leverkusen in the game.
Tella took the place of Afonso Moreira 10 minutes from time.
