Osimhen, Onuachu get new rivals for Super Lig Golden Boot

The Super Lig Golden Boot battle in the incoming 2026/27 season promises to be exciting, with new strikers coming to challenge Victor Osimhen and Paul Onuachu, who have won the last two honours. ABIODUN ADEWALE writes

Victor Osimhen (Galatasaray)

Osimhen was the top scorer in the 2024/25 season with 26 goals and five assists in the league. He ended the campaign with a whopping 37 goals and eight assists in 41 games across all competitions.

Last term, he was dethroned by his compatriot Paul Onuachu and Uzbekistan striker Eldor Shomurodov, but he still managed 22 goals and eight assists across all competitions for Galatasaray in 33 games, despite being slowed down by injury.

He will hope to win a third consecutive Super Lig title and also make a statement in the Champions League this upcoming season.

Galatasaray will begin their campaign against newly promoted Corum on Friday.

Paul Onuachu (Trabzonspor)

Onuachu and Uzbekistan striker Eldor Shomurodov shared the Golden Boot last season with 22 goals each.

With Mohamed Salah teaming up with him at Trabzonspor, the Nigerian might still fancy his chances of scoring more, but the Egyptian is also known for being a prolific goalscorer.

Altogether, their efforts should give Trabzonspor a genuine title push.

Trabzonspor’s first game is away at Kasimpasa on Saturday.

Mohamed Salah (Trabzonspor)

Salah arrives in Turkey after spending nine years at Liverpool, where he scored 257 goals and provided 123 assists in 442 matches across all competitions.

With his arrival, the last two winners definitely have a contender to battle for the Golden Boot. In the last two seasons in England, he scored a combined 46 goals and provided 33 assists in 93 games across all competitions.

Romelu Lukaku (Fenerbahce – incoming)

Lukaku, on the verge of joining title challengers Fenerbahce, is coming to Turkey from Napoli, just like Victor Osimhen.

After two seasons in Naples, the striker has severed ties with the former champions of Italy after scoring just 15 goals and providing 11 assists across all competitions in two years. His second season was plagued by injuries, reducing his involvement to just seven matches.

The Belgian will hope to rediscover his form after a good showing at the World Cup with the Red Devils.
