Council apologises after ‘substandard’ care of elderly woman
- An investigation revealed that carers commissioned by Portsmouth City Council fed an elderly woman dog food and stale, inedible food, alongside other “substandard” practices.
- The care provided by Radis Community Care included incorrect medication administration, alleged faked records, missed visits, and neglect of the woman’s mobility and hygiene.
- CCTV footage reportedly showed a carer forcefully feeding the woman and not adhering to her recommended soft diet, while her Do Not Attempt Resuscitation document was found discarded.
- The Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman criticised Portsmouth City Council for failing to properly oversee the care provider and leaving a statutory safeguarding inquiry unresolved for six months.
- Portsmouth City Council has apologised to the family, refunded care fees, and paid £1,000 in compensation for the distress caused, stating they no longer use Radis.
