The commissioner of Police in Taraba State, Moorkwap S. Dongshal, has charged police personnel to uphold the core values of the Nigeria Police Force by demonstrating professionalism, discipline, and integrity in their interactions with members of the public.
Dongshal gave the charge on Tuesday in Jalingo at the conclusion of a specialised training programme for Police Constables on weapon handling and tactical manoeuvres.

The training, DAILY POST gathered, was designed to enhance the operational preparedness, professionalism, and capacity of officers to effectively respond to emerging security challenges across the country.

Commending the participants for their commitment and active involvement throughout the exercise, the commissioner urged the officers to remain disciplined, diligent, and committed to the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.

“The acquisition of tactical and operational skills must be complemented by sound judgment, respect for human rights, and strict adherence to the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Dongshal said.

He also emphasised the importance of strict compliance with the Rules of Engagement and relevant operational guidelines, particularly Force Order 237, during police operations.

According to him, the use of force must always be lawful, necessary, proportionate, and in line with established rules and regulations governing police operations.

Dongshal reaffirmed the Taraba state police command’s commitment to the continuous capacity development of its personnel through regular training and retraining, in line with the vision of the Inspector General of Police.

He noted that the initiative forms part of broader efforts to strengthen the operational effectiveness of the Nigeria Police Force, improve its ability to protect lives and property, prevent crime, and maintain peace and security.

“The training is in line with the directives of the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on the continuous training and retraining of personnel of the Nigeria Police Force to strengthen their operational capabilities and ensure that officers are adequately equipped with the requisite skills and knowledge to effectively discharge their constitutional responsibilities,” he stated.

The commissioner reiterated the Command’s commitment to providing professional, people-oriented, and effective policing services to the people of Taraba state.
