The lawmaker representing Jos North Constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Adamu Aliyu, has dismissed reports of his resignation from the All Progressives Congress, describing the claims as false and orchestrated by “mischief makers.”
Speaking at a press conference in Jos on Tuesday, the lawmaker said he remains a bonafide member of the party on which platform he was elected in 2023.
`”Ladies and gentlemen, it has come to my knowledge that rumours are going round to the effect that I, Hon Adamu Aliyu, Member representing the good people of Jos North constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly, have resigned my membership of the All Progressives Congress, the Party on which ticket I overwhelmingly received the mandate of my people in the 2023 general elections,”` he said.
Hon. Aliyu said the speculation was aimed at destabilising the party in the local government.
`”This is not only further from the truth, but is the handiwork of mischief makers who harbour evil desires for the APC and its teeming supporters in Jos North Local government area,”` he stated.
Aliyu stressed that party membership procedures must follow due process and this confirmed his status at the ward level.
`”As you may be aware, the procedure for party membership or withdrawal starts from the ward level. I still remain a duly registered, card carrying member of the APC in my Ward, Naraguta B and by the grace of God, member representing Jos North North in the Plateau State House of Assembly on the ticket of the APC,”` he insisted.
The lawmaker also addressed issues surrounding the recently conducted party primaries in his constituency, alleging that aggrieved aspirants were behind the rumours.
`”No doubt, there are issues about the recently conducted primaries in my constituency, which were engineered by some aspirants who were rejected by the people and are yet to recover from the shock of their failure to secure the mandate of party members for the elections,”` he acknowledged.
However, he pledged to pursue lawful avenues to defend the mandate given to him by his constituents.
`”As a loyal Party man and law abiding citizen, I will follow all lawful and constitutional channels to see that the renewed mandate given to me by the people is sustained, preserved and duly upheld,”` the lawmaker emphasised.
`”I want to reassure my supporters and party members alike that I will not relent on this until your mandate is protected and delivered. Doing less will be a betrayal of the confidence reposed in me by your good selves.”`
Hon. Aliyu further alleged that his performance in office over the last three years had attracted opposition from within the party.
`”The successes achieved in our efforts to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people over the past three years have generated the envy of disloyal and unfaithful elements who will do everything possible to thwart our progress and turn the hands of the clock backwards. We shall therefore resist their evil machinations with all peaceful and lawful means available,”` he vowed.
Thus, he called on the APC leadership at all levels to be vigilant ahead of the forthcoming elections, saying, “I wish to call on the leadership of our great party at the Ward, Local, State and National levels to beware of these mischievous people who are working to see that our Party does not record a tremendous victory in the forthcoming general elections in the state,” he alerted.
The lawmaker also pledged support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Caleb Mutfwang, citing the voting strength of his constituency.
`”To me and my constituents whose votes number over 400 thousand, we consider it a faithful duty to ensure the renewal of another mandate for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Caleb Mutfwang with a resounding victory. We shall not waver on that or allow any distractions that will make our task fail,”` he vowed.
The Plateau politician, who meanwhile, commended his constituents for maintaining the peace despite the controversy, remarked thus,
`”I thank the people for being steadfast, peaceful and orderly in their support, despite the provocative attitude of those who harbor unwarranted grudges against us. We shall remain loyal and law abiding,”` he assured the people.
