Adeleke suspends NURTW operations in all Osun motor parks

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has directed the immediate suspension of all activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in motor parks across the state as part of measures to restore order and strengthen public security.
The directive was issued on Thursday following a meeting of the Osun State Security Council chaired by the Governor.
According to a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, the decision followed extensive deliberations on the security situation in the state and the need to restore sanity to motor parks.
Adeleke directed the Police and other security agencies to immediately stop all NURTW activities in motor parks across the state, stressing that the order does not include the closure of the parks.
He also ordered the suspension of the collection of all levies in the parks and directed security agencies to arrest anyone parading as an official or executive of the union in any motor park.
“I hereby direct the Police and other security agencies to stop all activities of the union in all our parks across the state. I am not saying you should close the parks, but you should not allow anyone to operate in the parks in the name of the union.
“Anyone found contravening this order should be arrested for possible prosecution for disturbance of public peace,” the governor said.
The statement added that the heads of the various security agencies present at the meeting assured the Governor of their commitment to strictly enforce the directive.
To ensure compliance, Governor Adeleke also approved the immediate establishment of a Rapid Response Squad comprising personnel from all security agencies operating in the state.
The meeting was attended by top security chiefs, including representatives of the Nigeria Police Force from the Osun State Command and Zone 11, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Navy, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigerian Correctional Service, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), and the Western Nigeria Security Network (Amotekun). Also present were the Deputy Governor, the Chief of Staff, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, and the Special Adviser on Security Matters..
