An 18-year-old man, Abdullahi Aminu, has died after falling into a pond at Kofar Gabas in Danbatta Local Government Area of Kano State.
The Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the incident occurred on Tuesday at about 3:28 p.m.
The Fire Service said it received a distress call from Aminu Lawan, who reported that his son had fallen into a pond.
“Upon receiving the report, our personnel from the Danbatta Fire Station immediately mobilised to the scene,” the statement said.
The firefighters recovered the victim from the pond unconscious and took steps to revive him. However, he was later confirmed dead.
The statement added that the deceased was subsequently handed over to the Secretary to the District Head of Danbatta, Alhaji Baba Ado Sarkin Bai, for further necessary action.
The Fire Service sympathised with the family of the deceased over the tragic incident.
The agency also urged residents to exercise caution around ponds, waterways and other bodies of water, particularly during the rainy season.
