The Gombe State Police Command has prosecuted 167 motorists and other road users for various traffic offences as part of its ongoing enforcement of Operation Velvet across the Gombe metropolis.

The exercise, which commenced at about 6:00 am on Monday, August 24, 2026, was supervised by the Commissioner of Police, Gombe State Command, CP Umar Chuso, and focused on enforcing compliance with traffic laws and regulations.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, disclosed this in a statement issued on behalf of the Commissioner of Police on Thursday.

According to the Command, the enforcement exercise, conducted from August 24 to 27, resulted in the prosecution of 167 offenders before three designated mobile courts established at Rainbow Roundabout, Gombe Emir’s Palace and Liji Roundabout.

The courts were established to facilitate the speedy prosecution of traffic offenders arrested during the operation.

Speaking during the exercise, CP Chuso said the Command remained committed to ensuring compliance with traffic laws and regulations while promoting public order and safety across the state.

He said, “The Command is committed to ensuring strict compliance with traffic laws, maintaining public order and enhancing the safety and security of all road users across the state.”

The Commissioner further urged motorists, tricycle and motorcycle operators, as well as other road users, to comply with traffic regulations and ensure that their vehicles have all required documentation.

He warned that the enforcement exercise would be sustained, urging members of the public to cooperate with security and enforcement officers.

The Command also advised residents to report suspicious or unlawful activities through the appropriate channels.
