Britons connected to cruise ship outbreak of hantavirus to complete isolation in UK
Britons evacuated from hantavirus-hit cruise arrive in UK for isolation
Ten British individuals from South Atlantic islands, linked to a hantavirusoutbreak on a cruise ship, are being brought to the UK for precautionary self-isolation.
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) confirmed this measure ensures access to specialist medical services in England, as the individuals are currently asymptomatic.
This development follows 20 British nationals and other passengers from the MV Hondius cruise ship completing an initial isolation at Arrowe Park Hospital, with many now continuing their 42-day isolation at home.
The cruise outbreak has led to 11 reported hantavirus cases, including three deaths, though the World Health Organisation (WHO) sees no sign of a larger outbreak yet.
The WHO praised Spain for allowing the ship to dock, highlighting the humanitarian necessity to disembark passengers, some of whom were experiencing mental distress.
