Stephen Colbert returns to TV one night after his Late Show farewell
Stephen Colbert reflects on 33-year The Late Show run in emotional final monologue
Stephen Colbert made a surprise return to TV, hosting Only in Monroe in Michigan just one day after the finale of his long-running CBS talk show, The Late Show.
Colbert’s appearance fulfilled a joke he made during his final monologue, where he quipped that his next television appearance might be back on the Monroe public access station.
The special Only in Monroe episode featured celebrity guests including musician Jack White, who served as musical director, and actor Jeff Daniels, who prepared a unique sandwich for Colbert.
Other notable appearances included Steve Buscemi in a local pizza commercial and a phone-in cameo from rapper Eminem, who had previously appeared in a viral skit during Colbert’s 2015 Only in Monroe episode.
The Late Show With Stephen Colbert concluded its 11-year run with its most-watched weeknight episode, attracting 6.74 million viewers, and featured Paul McCartney as its final guest.
