An ITV Believe Me star has shared that it wasn’t the attack scenes that were the hardest to shoot.
Believe Me made its ITV debut last night, Sunday, May 10, leaving fans “horrified” as the true crime drama delves into what happened to John Worboys’ (played by Daniel Mays) victims.
After picking up women after they’d been on nights out, Worboys claimed he won money at a casino or on the lottery and would persuade his passengers to “celebrate” with a drug-laced glass of champagne, rendering them unconscious.
Episode one mostly focuses on Sarah (Aimee-Ffion Edwards), whose real name is protected, who is the first victim shown in the cab, and who then reports the incident to the police.
Peaky Blinders star Edwards explained during an ITV Q&A that the scenes in the cab where Sarah is attacked weren’t the most “harrowing”.

She began by talking about the importance of having an intimacy co-ordinator behind the scenes, saying that it doesn’t “have to be physical to be intimate”.
Edwards continued: “In this case, the examination scenes in lots of ways I think were more intimate than the actual stuff in the taxi. “I think that goes hand in hand with that they couldn’t really remember the attack, but the process that comes after that, in terms of the investigation and the evidence they need to collect, is so harrowing and is its own other thing.
“When I read the script, it was actually the examination scenes that I found the hardest to read and the most harrowing, actually.”

While the first episode revolved around Edwards’ character, Sarah, this time, episode two, which airs this evening, Monday, May 11, is about student Laila Mahmood (Aasiya Shah).
The official synopsis for episode two reads: “Student Laila Mahmood is drugged and assaulted by John Worboys, but her claims are dismissed by police and her case is dropped, despite the evidence of CCTV footage.
