The FIFA World Cup will kick off on Thursday and football fans from around the world are making their way to the United States to be a part of the iconic event – but they may not be prepared for just how much they’ll have to fork out for a drink.

Raymond James stadium, in Tampa, Florida, hosted England’s warm-up game with New Zealand on Saturday, June 6.

Fans were shocked by the cost of drinks at the stadium – with a standard pint costing fans a whopping £12.50.

One supporter shared an photograph of the bar menu, which featured an $18 premium large beer, about £13.50. A single hard seltzer – carbonated water, alcohol and fruit flavourings at around 5% ABV – set fans back $20.50, more than £15.

The Sun reported the following beverage prices:

  • Ultra premium double cocktail – $28.50 (£21.36)
  • Ultra premium single cocktail – $19.50 (£14.61)
  • Premium double cocktail – $25.25 (£16.67)
  • Frozen cocktails (Strawberry Daiquiri and Margarita) – $19.25 (£14.53)
  • Domestic large beer – $16.75 (£12.55)
  • Premium large beer – $18.00 (£13.50)
  • Hard seltzer – $20.50 (£15.36)
  • Non-alcoholic beer – $10.00 (£7.49)
  • Gatorade – $8.75 (£6.56)
  • Gatorade water – $8.75 (£6.56)
  • Aquafina water – $7.50 (£5.62)

One fan has called the cost “over-priced” and “greedy”.

Another said: “It probably doesn’t include tax and the HUGE tip they will want on top….”

An American weighed in on the argument, saying that while price gouging was normal at a lot of games in the US, this was “beyond what even I’d expect”.

The Three Lions went on to beat New Zealand 1-0 in the warm-up match.

England will play its first World Cup match against Croatia on June 17 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, which has a capacity of 80,000 spectators.
