RuPaul’s Drag Race star Morphine Love Dion claimed that a traumatic brain injury sustained during a deadly car accident caused her to experience “psychosis” while filming spinoff show All Stars 11.

“While I was filming All Stars 11, I was mentally not okay,” Morphine, 29, told Entertainment Weekly in an interview published on Friday, May 15. “I was going through some form of psychosis. I went through it so bad in All Stars, while filming. One, after the car accident, I definitely had some form of brain injury that they just are learning about now. I was going through severe insomnia and severe anxiety.”

In July 2024, Morphine and fellow drag queen Kaos were riding in an Uber involved in a car accident on Los Angeles’ 10 freeway that left one person dead. Six people — including Dion — were hospitalized after a single vehicle crash turned into a multi-car collision, per ABC News.

Morphine’s social media team broke their silence hours later, confirming via Instagram, “Morphine was in a serious car accident while in an Uber. She suffered multiple injuries but is grateful to be alive. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. Some space and time is appreciated as she focuses on healing.”

The Drag Race star soon shared via an Instagram Story update that she was “OK” and was advised by her doctors to stay on “bed rest” for the time being. Later, Morphine revealed that she’d suffered a fractured collarbone and multiple broken teeth, in addition to having surgery for a broken jaw.

When she filmed All Stars 11 in 2025, Morphine was still recovering from her injuries while trying to prepare for the Paramount+ show and honor her dates with RuPaul’s Drag Race Live in Las Vegas.

“I had a lot of mental issues going on while filming. I feel better talking about it now. But, when I filmed, it was almost like a blackout,” Morphine said. “Even Ru was concerned for me. Ru, [judge] Ts Madison, and Michelle [Visage], kept asking if I was okay. I wasn’t, but throughout all the mental stuff I went through while filming, I still did a good job.”

Looking back on that difficult period in her life, Morphine acknowledged that the “car accident was really severe” and her recovery made it very difficult for her to be completely ready for All Stars.

“I just want to tell my fans, thank you for supporting and loving me. I tried my best, even with all the mental stuff happening,” Morphine said. “The reception I get from the fans and the love is what’s literally keeping me going. It’s what healed me throughout this.”

Morphine originally competed on RuPaul’s Drag Race season 16 in 2024, where she finished in fifth place overall. (Nymphia Wind won Drag Race season 16 over runner up Sapphira Cristál.)

RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 11 airs new episodes on Paramount+ Fridays.
