B&M customers can transform their gardens with a chic upgrade for just £12, courtesy of a “large” outdoor purchase the retailer claims delivers an “elevated look”. Renowned for its cut-price homeware, furniture and garden accessories, the discount chain’s latest offering has sparked interest for its designer-inspired aesthetic at a wallet-friendly cost.

The high street favourite has unveiled a new collection of garden decorations in time for summer. Amongst the headline items is a Large Scalloped Ceramic Planter retailing at only £12 – and it bears a remarkable resemblance to considerably pricier designer-style options currently available.

Highlighting the outdoor piece online, a B&M spokesperson said: “Give your garden an elevated look with our Large Scalloped Ceramic Planter. Great for growing and displaying foliage, herbs, and flowers.”

Its clean, understated appearance means it might slot into most garden styles and outdoor settings. The neutral styling could also make it straightforward to combine with flowers, shrubs or compact trees without conflicting with existing garden elements.

Decorative planters have also gained popularity as they enable people to introduce greenery to patios, balconies and more compact outdoor areas without requiring extensive flower beds or major landscaping work. They can assist with drainage and soil management as well, while providing an easy method to enliven entranceways, decking zones and garden nooks with plants and vibrant colour.

Shoppers can discover more and browse official product images on the B&M website. The planter is presently only available to purchase in-store, with home delivery not an option, though customers can verify stock availability at their local branch using the retailer’s online store finder.

You might spot it bears an uncanny resemblance to a virtually identical piece available at Hortology. The Poseidon Mediterranean Planter costs a staggering 12 times more, with an eye-watering price tag of £149.99.

Offered in three different sizes – 42 x 38cm, 52 x 47cm and 63.5cm – the alternative option provides shoppers with greater flexibility based on the dimensions of their garden or outdoor area. Customers can also include a pot liner for added practicality, something not provided with the single-size B&M variant.

“Inspired by the enduring elegance of Ancient Greek urns and amphorae, Poseidon exudes a timeless allure,” reads the product description on the Hortology website. “Seamlessly merging warm buttermilk tones with the artistic essence of antiquity and contemporary, chic sensibility, Poseidon stands as a sophisticated supporting act to indoor and outdoor greenery.

“Poseidon is part of the Mediterranean collection, offering classic aesthetics with a modern twist. Designed to evoke the essence of the coasts, beaches, and landscapes of the Mediterranean, the planters in this collection combine a classic aesthetic with modern materials – offering durability, lightweight design and versatility for both indoor and outdoor use.”

Crafted from ficonstone – a combination of fibreglass, cement, sand and finely ground stone – the firm says the planter is built to marry a premium appearance with lasting resilience. Ideal for both indoor and outdoor settings, it also provides UV and frost protection, though customers using it inside are advised to use a waterproof liner as it is not entirely watertight.

Customers appear equally taken with the product online, with one buyer commenting: “Satisfying, seamless and swift business. Great product easily ordered and safely delivered.”
