Arsenal are yet to leave their mark on this summer’s transfer window. There was plenty of talk at the end of last season, following their Premier League title success and Champions League final defeat, that the Gunners will look to invest heavily in the coming months.

Mikel Arteta was said to have been handed a war chest of around £250million – the same amount he spent this time last year to drastically improve his squad. But, aside from the permanent acquisition of loanee Piero Hincapie, Arsenal have been quiet in terms of actually announcing new signings, especially compared to some of their rivals.

It appears sporting director Andrea Berta is negotiating various deals at the same for players on his list of targets. The English champions are understood to be prioritising a right-back, a midfielder, a left winger and potentially a forward.

However, there has been a growing sense of unease in recent days, given some of their targets have moved elsewhere and reports that the north Londoners have been priced out of several deals.

Now, Mirror Football takes a look at two of the latest transfer developments concerning Arsenal.

Arsenal reportedly turned down the chance to sign Sandro Tonali before Tottenham Hotspur agreed a £100m transfer with Newcastle. The 26-year-old Italian is set to become Spurs’ second record signing of the summer, with Matheus Fernandes arrival announced on Thursday.

The news may have come as a shock to some of the Gunners faithful, given their strong transfer links with Tonali since January. Berta had made contact over the player and ChronicleLive reports that his agent even offered Tonali to Arsenal.

However, the same report claims the Gunners rejected the opportunity because they believed his salary expectations were too high. Tonali is understood to be set to receive £275,000 per week at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on a six-year deal. His agent, Giuseppe Riso also supposedly requested a 10% agent fee.
