At least three Nigerians have been arrested in India over their alleged involvement in an international drug trafficking operation.
According to a report by The New Indian Express on Wednesday, the suspects reportedly entered India on medical and tourist visas before allegedly engaging in illicit drug activities.
The suspects were identified as Ambemo Victor, 37; Chime Moses, 36; and Karikari Ames, 33.
The report stated that operatives of the Anti-Narcotic Wing of the Indian Central Crime Branch carried out the arrests during operations linked to two separate drug trafficking cases in the city.
Authorities reportedly recovered 10.27 kilograms of MDMA crystals and 2.044 kilograms of hydroponic cannabis from the suspects.
The seized drugs were estimated to be worth about Rs 23 crore.
According to the report, security operatives acted on intelligence before raiding a residence located within the Madanayakanahalli police jurisdiction, where the suspects were apprehended.
“The Anti-Narcotic Wing of CCB has arrested four people, including three Nigerian nationals, in two cases of drug peddling in the city,” the report stated.
It added that investigators recovered MDMA crystals valued at approximately Rs 21 crore from the suspects during the operation.
Preliminary investigations reportedly indicated that the suspects obtained the drugs from another Nigerian national believed to be residing in Delhi.
Indian authorities said further investigations into the drug trafficking network were ongoing.
