Masked Empire State Building pair appear to get engaged after scaling 1,454ft skyscraper
Two people have scaled the Empire State Building‘s spire in New York City and are standing near the glowing red light at its top, some 1,454 feet (443 metres) above the sidewalk of midtown Manhattan.
They unfurled a large black banner with white lettering that read: “When the power of love beats the love of power the world knows peace.”
The incident, initially appearing as an advocacy stunt for world peace, evolved into what seemed to be an elaborate marriage proposal.
After descending to a lower platform on the antenna structure, one person knelt, and the pair embraced and appeared to kiss.
Authorities, including the New York Police Department, stated the situation was “still developing” and provided no immediate further details.
