BREAKING: Oyo teachers suspend strike triggered by student abductions

The Oyo State chapter of the Nigerian Union of Teachers has suspended its indefinite strike action following a review of the state’s security situation.

The development was announced on Wednesday in a statement jointly signed by the state NUT Chairman, Hassan Fatai, and the union’s Secretary, Olukayode Salami.

According to the union, the decision to suspend the strike came after consultations and appeals by the Oyo State Government and other stakeholders.

The union added that it reviewed the prevailing security situation before deciding to call off the industrial action, paving the way for teachers to return to classrooms.

PUNCH Online had reported that the teachers had embarked on the strike in response to concerns over the abduction of schoolchildren in Ogbomosho in Orire Local Government Area of the state, citing the need for improved security measures in schools across the state.
