The Niger State House of Assembly has dismissed reports claiming it has adjourned indefinitely, describing the information circulating on social media and some online television platforms as false and misleading.
Speaker of the House, Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin Daji, made the clarification during Tuesday’s plenary, insisting that the Assembly remains fully operational and committed to its constitutional responsibilities of lawmaking, oversight and representation.
Sarkin Daji also dismissed speculation of a rift between the legislature and the executive, stressing that both arms of government enjoy a cordial working relationship founded on mutual respect and cooperation.
“We enjoy a cordial relationship with the executive. There is no rift between us, and should any differences arise, we have established democratic channels to resolve them,” the Speaker said.
He urged journalists and media organisations to verify information through the Assembly’s official communication channels before publication, warning that the spread of unverified reports undermines public trust and democratic institutions.
The Speaker reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to transparency, accountability and effective service delivery to the people of Niger State.
