Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has urged members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, deployed to the state to serve as catalysts of progress by making meaningful contributions to their host communities.
The governor gave the charge on Tuesday at the closing ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream I orientation course held at the NYSC temporary orientation camp in Kaduna.
Sani said the three-week orientation programme had equipped corps members with discipline, resilience and a deeper appreciation of Nigeria’s unity in diversity, urging them to view their service year as an opportunity to create positive change.
He encouraged the corps members to demonstrate excellence in their various places of primary assignment, including schools, hospitals, farms and offices, and to initiate projects that would leave lasting impacts on their host communities.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the NYSC scheme through collaboration with security agencies and host communities, assuring the corps members of adequate welfare and security throughout their service year.
He also called on employers in both the public and private sectors to provide corps members with meaningful responsibilities and mentorship opportunities, stressing that investing in young people was critical to the development of Kaduna State and Nigeria.
Sani commended the corps members for participating in the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, SAED, programme and urged them to complete the post-camp training to enhance their entrepreneurial capacity and job-creation potential.
Earlier, the NYSC Coordinator in Kaduna State, Efeke Dadaza, said the corps members had undergone paramilitary drills, entrepreneurship training and lectures aimed at promoting national unity and leadership development.
She described the corps members as mentally, physically and professionally prepared for their assignments across the state and urged them to integrate peacefully with their host communities while undertaking impactful community development projects.
She, however, appealed for the renovation of damaged camp facilities, provision of additional bunk beds and mattresses, improved feeding arrangements, enhanced welfare packages for corps members and the establishment of a permanent NYSC orientation camp in the state.
