Serena Williams claims she couldn’t turn down Wimbledon wildcard
Serena Williams, aged 44, is making a return to singles action at Wimbledon after securing the final wildcard spot.
She is scheduled to play Australia’s Maya Joint, currently ranked 87th in the world, in her first-round match on Tuesday, 30 July. This will be Williams’ first singles match in four years, following her last appearance at the 2022 US Open.
Williams’ clash will be the final match of the day on Centre Court, following the defending champion Iga Swiatek and French Open champion Alexander Zverev’s opener against Alexander Blockx.
Williams could be therefore be in action on Tuesday evening, at around 7:00pm BST (2:00pm ET).
