Those of us who dye our hair regularly know this relatively expensive treat is usually followed by a new months impatiently waiting for that next appointment to fix our glaringly obvious roots. Even more so when those peppered greys start to appear. But Garnier has launched a new solution to this in a £9 home-colour formula shoppers are praising for making ‘my [hair] colour look richer and more vibrant’ and ‘adding a little ‘oomph’ to your colour, whilst restoring softness and adding some shine’.
Rather than being a permanent hair dye, the Garnier Olia Gloss 10 Min Hair Mask is, as its name suggests, a tinted hair mask that offers fresh, revived colour for up to six washes. Not only does it give users’ colour a bit of a boost, but as a mask it also nourishes the hair and conditions it, leaving it with ’72H mirror-like shine’ and softness.
It is made with 8% restoring complex enriched with nourishing flower oils, such as sunfower oil, shea butter, camelia oleifera seed and more. As a tinted mask, the product comes in four different shades, including Expensive Brunette – formulated specifically for darker hair – to Cowboy Copper, Old Money Blonde and Scandi Blonde.

The Garnier Olia Gloss 10 Min Hair Mask usually retails at £12.99 and is available to buy at Superdrug, Boots, Amazon and Tesco. Although shoppers can get the hair mask for £8.99 at Superdrug and Amazon in its latest offers. The hair mask is said to contain no silicones, alcohol (ethanol), or mineral oil, and is ammonia free – which is a bonus.
Claiming to ‘correct up to one year of damage’, the mask is to be applied just as a conditioner would – apply on clean, wet hair and massage into hair from root to lengths. It’s recommended to wear gloves for this job and users are to leave it on for 10 minutes to allow for the hair to absorb the colour.

The new Garnier Olia Gloss offers up to 72 hours of mirror-like shine whilst visibly delivers a more vibrant hair colour.
While the brand does state it’s ‘not recommended for grey coverage’, shoppers have said how ‘the colour result is really nice to cover some grey hairs and refresh my colour’.
Another echoed this and said: “The gloss is a perfect pick-me up in between dyes – the colour was picked up well by my greys and roots. It was easy to apply and wash off- and left my hair feeling nourished and glowing. I would be keen to see more colours in this range!”
If this formula hasn’t quite hit the mark with the results, there are a range of alternative tinted masks to help deliver gorgeous colour. For example, the Wella Professionals Care Color Fresh Semi-Permanent Colour Mask from Lookfantastic is £16.70 and comes in six shades from Chocolate Touch brunette to Pearl Blonde. The brand shares: “Ideal for those looking for a temporary change, this luxurious mask combines conditioning care with semi-permanent colour.”

At Boots, the Schwarzkopf Hair Gloss, £8, is another option that allegedly is designed to invigorate hair colour, adding ‘depth and richness’. Meanwhile its nurturing formula includes coconut oil will support hair health, deeply condition, minimise breakage and more.
Although Garnier’s new Olia Gloss formula has proven a hit with shoppers who want to give their hair a bit of a colour boost in between salon trips. One user hailed it ‘a perfect pick-me up in between dyes’. A glowing five star review added: “Super hydrating and my hair soooo glossy. It adds warmth to my hair. My natural brown has gone from a dull brown to a rich warm dark brown and my slightly bleached ends gained so much warmth.”
Someone else, who used the Old Money Blonde, said: “I was actually a little scared to use this as it comes out of the tube very warm, almost orange. I did a small test just to check first! It comes out a gorgeous, dark almost honey blonde – very much the trending “Old Money” blonde so suits the name incredibly well! It’s really easy to use – wash your hair like normal, and use this instead of a hair mask.

“It’s super hydrating – without weigh[ing it] down – and leaves my hair super shiny, soft and tangle free, with a boost of colour!”
One person loved its conditioning features, stating: “It conditions with the same high-performance intensity as those “magic” conditioner bottles you only ever find tucked inside a box of hair dye.”
Another user noted: “I’m honestly obsessed with the Garnier Olia Gloss 10-Minute Tinted Hair Mask. It’s the perfect in-between color refresh when your hair needs a boost but you don’t want to commit to a full dye. The application is super easy, the scent is pleasant (not overpowering) and the 10-min processing time is a dream.
“The gloss adds beautiful shine and subtly refreshes the color without looking harsh or fake. My hair felt noticeably softer, smoother, and deeply nourished after rinsing; no dryness at all. It also helped revive dullness and made my colour look fresh and salon-finished. I love that it conditions while enhancing tone, so it feels more like a luxury treatment than a colouring product. Perfect for maintaining colour between appointments or just adding extra gloss and life to your hair.”
While it ‘lived up to the hype’ for many people, offering a gorgeous hue, some shoppers weren’t quite so impressed with the formula not garnering the same results. One person, who deducted two stars from their rating, said: “I had high hopes for this, especially with the claims about correcting up to a year of damage, but unfortunately it didn’t live up to that for me. My hair didn’t feel any softer or healthier after use, and there wasn’t a noticeable improvement in condition at all.”
They added: “The toning effect was quite subtle and not as effective as other blonde toning masks I’ve tried, which gave better results in terms of colour and brightness. It’s easy to apply and quick to use, but overall it didn’t deliver the results I was expecting.”

Although for the most part, Garnier fans have loved the outcome from using this tinted hair mask, as echoed in this five star review: “Perfect for when you want your hair to look more fresh between hairdresser appointments. My brown has faded away from washes and I just wanted to blend the rest of the hair to my dark roots and it has worked. The colour is slightly warmer than what I expected but I used for two washes as I wanted the colour to be slightly darker and it turned out perfect without ruining my hair.”
