The iPad continues to rule the roost when it comes to tablets, but it’s getting even more competition from its Android rivals. This time, it’s Lenovo taking aim at Apple’s dominance with the technology brand launching a device called the Tab Plus Gen 2.

From the front, it looks pretty identical to any other big-screen tablet, thanks to its 12.1-inch 2.5K LCD display with a 120Hz refresh rate and striking Dolby Vision visuals.

A pin-sharp panel is clearly not all that radical, as almost all devices have one, but spin this gadget around, and things suddenly look very different.

Instead of the usual metal casing, the Tab Plus Gen 2 features a huge circular speaker that’s powered by JBL technology. Not only will it boost those boxsets and gaming sessions, but it will also get the party started. That’s thanks to a unique mode which turns the device into a dedicated Bluetooth speaker. It can even support impressive Dolby Atmos audio to really boost the party.

Another bonus of the Tab Plus Gen 2 is its neat built-in kickstand, so there’s no need to hold it while watching a movie. With a rotating 360 design, this stand can be used in landscape and portrait modes and even transform into a helpful carry handle for improved portability.

Other things tucked inside include a speedy MediaTek Dimensity 7400 processor, a massive 10,200mAh battery with fast charging and 128GB storage that can be expanded via an SD Card.

If any of that sounds enticing, you can grab one at Lenovo for £369.

As a quick comparison, Apple’s iPad starts from £429 with the improved Air model costing £749.
