A serial flasher has been put on the Sex Offenders’ Register for 10 years after three incidents in Hamilton.

Daniel Duffy, 27, was also jailed for 20 months at the town’s sheriff court this week.

But it was likely he would be freed immediately under early release rules as he had been in custody since his arrest almost a year ago and the sentence was backdated.

Duffy admitted exposing himself to females at a laundry and a beauty salon and on a grass area at Hamilton Palace Sports Grounds.

On two occasions he engaged in sexual activity in front of the shocked women.

The incidents occurred on April 29 and May 18 last year.

Defence lawyer Linda Findlay told the court Duffy was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the offences and “has little recollection of events”.

She added: “There is also a background of long-term mental health issues.

“These offences took place shortly after the birth of his son when there was a deterioration in his mental health.”

Sheriff Kevin McCallum told Duffy: “These are serious offences and you have a significant record but not for offending of this sort.”

The sheriff said he had decided against imposing an extended sentence that would have meant Duffy being supervised on his release from prison.

He said: “I’m not satisfied that the requirements for an extended sentence are met.

“There is no record for this type of offending and these, while serious, were non-contact offences.”
