Wildfire scorches Peak District as helicopters tackle huge blaze in heatwave
Sky glows orange as ferocious wildfire rages near Glossop
A significant wildfire erupted in the Peak District amidst a record-breaking heatwave, with drone footage capturing intense flames and thick smoke.
The blaze originated around 10pm on Wednesday, 24 June, at Tintwistle Moor, subsequently spreading through woodland and grassland near Glossop and Tameside.
Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service (DRFS) deployed six fire crews, a water carrier, and a welfare unit to the scene on Thursday, 25 June.
The fire impacted an area of 400 square metres of land before being successfully contained by firefighters on Friday, 26 June.
Crews are currently damping down and monitoring for hot spots, with specialist vehicles remaining on site to ensure the situation is stable.
