Prince William tops list of most expensive royal trips in annual financial report

Prince William‘s three-day official visit to Saudi Arabia in February 2026 was the most expensive royal trip, costing £130,106, according to the royal family‘s annual financial report.
This marks the first time Prince William has topped the annual list of most expensive royal trips, surpassing the King and Queen’s state visit to Italy, which cost £126,946.
The financial report covers the 12 months to March 2026 and details journeys by family members with travel costs of at least £20,000, an increase from the previous £17,000 threshold.
Other significant expenses included the Prince of Wales’s trip to Brazil for the Cop30 climate summit (£78,542) and the King and Queen’s visit to the Vatican City (£75,371).
Total spending on journeys across the 12-month period, including trips that cost both above and below £20,000, was £3,316,024
