- Footage captured for Greenpeace showed pavements in central London, including Oxford Street and Piccadilly Circus, reaching highs of 57C.
- These surface temperatures are distinct from air temperatures, which are measured by thermometers.
- The heatwave coincided with the hottest June day ever recorded, with air temperatures reaching 36.7C in Merryfield, Somerset, on Thursday.
- The Met Office forecasts this “exceptional spell of hot and humid weather” to persist until Friday night.
