The Katsina State Government has dismissed allegations that it sponsored Hajj pilgrimage for criminal elements, describing the claim as false and misleading.

The state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasir Mu’azu, stated this in a statement issued on Wednesday in Katsina.

Mu’azu was reacting to claims allegedly made by Bashir Kurfi during a programme aired on Trust TV, accusing the state government of sponsoring bandits to Hajj.

He said the allegation was baseless, unfounded and aimed at misleading the public, as well as undermining efforts by the government and security agencies to address insecurity in the state.

According to him, the claim comes at a time when security agencies, with the support of the state government, are recording significant successes in the fight against banditry and related crimes.

The commissioner described the allegation as a politically motivated attempt to distract attention from the achievements being recorded in tackling insecurity.

He expressed concern over what he described as the continued politicisation of security issues by individuals and groups pursuing personal and political interests.

Mu’azu alleged that some elements were dissatisfied with the government’s refusal to support schemes and ventures that could divert public resources from development projects and programmes.

He challenged those behind the allegations to provide credible and verifiable evidence to support their claims.

The commissioner warned that the government would explore all lawful means to protect its reputation and hold accountable anyone found spreading false and defamatory information.

He urged residents and Nigerians to disregard the allegations and continue supporting security agencies and other stakeholders working to restore peace and stability in the state.

Mu’azu reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting security operations and implementing measures aimed at ensuring the safety, well-being and prosperity of residents. (NAN)
