The Anambra State First Lady, Nonye Soludo, has expressed delight over the steady recovery of a 10-year-old boy who was allegedly assaulted by his guardians, describing it as a testament to the dedication of the medical team and the outpouring of love, support and prayers from kind-hearted individuals.
The boy, identified as Chiziterem, whose video went viral on social media showing severe burns and injuries allegedly inflicted by his guardians in Awada, Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state, is currently receiving medical treatment under state protection.
Soludo, who paid a second visit to the boy at the hospital, expressed relief over the reassuring update from the medical team that his condition is stable.
While assessing the victim’s condition during the follow-up visit, the First Lady expressed satisfaction with his steady improvement and commended the medical team caring for him.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, she urged residents to continue speaking up against child abuse and neglect wherever they occur, stressing that every child deserves to be safe, protected and given the opportunity to thrive.
She said, “I paid another visit to young Chiziterem today to monitor his recovery and offer his family encouragement. I am delighted to see that he is making remarkable progress and is much stronger than when I last visited.
“His steady recovery is a testament to the dedication of the medical team and the outpouring of love, support and prayers from kind-hearted individuals.
“As promised, I will continue to keep a close watch on his wellbeing to ensure he receives the care and support he needs until he is fully recovered and reunited with his family.
“Every child deserves to be safe, protected, and given the opportunity to thrive. Let’s continue to speak up against child abuse and neglect wherever we see it. Call 112 or 5111 to report any emergency in Anambra State.”
