The project’s collapse stemmed from a “falling out” over budget constraints, with Madonna asserting that her ‘extraordinary life’ necessitated a substantial budget that Universal was reluctant to provide.
Madonna suggested shooting the film in Serbia to reduce costs, but Universal Studios reportedly doubted her willingness to stay there for an extended period and appeared disinclined towards the proposal.
Following the Universal project’s failure, Madonna endeavoured to adapt her life story into a series for Netflix, but encountered difficulties in reacquiring her original script and securing a suitable showrunner.
After approximately eight or nine months of development, the Netflix series was also shelved, prompting Madonna to redirect her creative focus back to music, with her new album, Confessions on a Dance Floor: Part II, scheduled for release on 3 July.
