  • Sir Keir Starmer publicly outlined his resignation plan from outside Number 10, confirming that the process to find his successor will officially begin on 9 July.
  • He expressed his wish for the Labour Party to establish a timetable that would ensure a new leader is in place by 1 September, when Parliament is scheduled to return from its summer recess.
  • In his resignation statement, Sir Keir acknowledged that his parliamentary party had answered the question of whether he was best placed to lead them into the next general election, stating he accepted their decision with good grace.
