At least three students have died following a school shooting in the Philippines.

A shooting incident at San Jose National High School, Tacloban City, at around 9am local time has wounded at least five students, with three confirmed dead.

As classes were ongoing, several gunshots could be heard, creating panic among students and teachers.

Two people have been identified as persons of interest, one being a 15-year-old student at the school.

The Police Regional Office-8 assured the public that they were ensuring both these suspects were arrested.

Additional police personnel have been deployed in the area to ensure the safety of students, school personnel, parents, and the community.

The force said: “We urge the public to remain calm, refrain from disseminating unverified information, and cooperate with authorities by providing any information that may aid the ongoing investigation.”

One suspect was apprehended at the scene and the other suspect was arrested following a pursuit operation.

The gun allegedly used in the attack was seized from him, according to local media.

‎One suspect, classified as a Child In Conflict with the Law and a resident of Barangay San Jose here, was promptly apprehended at the scene.

The other minor suspect was arrested in a hot pursuit operation in Barangay San Jose. Seized from him was the gun used allegedly used in the shooting.

Tacloban City police chief Noelito Getigan said that the shooting was a result of allaged bullying suffered by the suspects.

They are currently being interrogated by police.
